Bernese Oberland: To the Jungfrau!
I had high expectations for this part of our trip. This is an area of Switzerland that devoted followers of Rick Steves’ public television series know well: small dairy farms and ski towns dotting breathtakingly beautiful mountain peaks. I believe that Steves still claims Gimmelwald, a small town just across the valley from where we stayed, to be his favorite destination of all time.
It’s easy to understand why. The area offers seemingly endless opportunities for exploring the mountain peaks. And the Swiss, with their efficient systems of transportation and offerings for kids, made it easy for us to make the most of it.
We spent four fun-filled days here, making our cameras work overtime. If it’s not the most beautiful place I’ve ever been, it’s definitely tied for first place.
