Hi.

Thanks for looking in on our adventure!

Exploring Moab

Exploring Moab

We had an unusual, rainy day in Moab so we hunkered down for a few hours to wait out the worst of the rain. As things cleared, we explored Moab and went swimming at our campground.

Then, that evening, we decided to visit Dead Horse Point State Park. This beautiful site, some say, rivals the Grand Canyon for its beauty. While not as large or long as the Grand Canyon, the ability to see and take in so much of the canyon from a single vista makes it especially beautiful. This spot was made famous by Thelma & Louise who, in the story drive off the Grand Canyon, but whose stunt car was driven over the edge here, at Dead Horse Point.

Our sunset plans were a total bust! There was a wind storm at the point with sustained 50 MPH winds and gusts in the 70’s. You could hardly see the sun at all, let alone see it set over the canyon walls. But, we had a laughing good time attempting to walk to the edge of the look out while keeping sand out of our eyes.

We came away from the day agreeing that while it wasn’t the most photogenic moment, it was an instant Finkel Family classic.

The next morning, with sunnier skies, the kids and I took a short bike ride from the Lions Gate Trailhead just outside of Moab. This is a beautiful, relatively new, paved path along the Colorado River. We biked eight miles total and I think the kids could have easily gone farther – if the path had continued deeper into the canyon.

We also took Toby for an afternoon hike in the same area on the Grandstaff Canyon Trail. This was a beautiful trail and Toby and I were ready to stay out on the trail for a long time. But, I compromised with Norah, who was hoping to catch a live stream from a favorite Minecraft streamer (insert shrugging emoji face here) and headed back to camp to relax and enjoy the afternoon.
