Portugal: Lisbon Explorers, Part Two
It seems that all of our travel mishaps were saved for the last leg of our journey, which works out great since we’re pretty savvy at this point.
What we weren’t expecting though was a 3:45 am fire alarm at our apartment building. The alarm, which was a false alarm, managed to not rouse Norah and Ben from their deep sleep (a small miracle). But, it also failed to raise an alarm with anyone from the building management company or law enforcement. So, we were subjected to almost an hour of buzzing and ringing with no means of reaching anyone who could turn it off. I even sent Eli out to knock on the door of the other two buildings managed by the same company because I was under the impression that one of them had a 24 hour door manager.
He came back empty handed, but did walk in to find that someone else in our building had managed to reach the fire department. It took quite a large group to figure out how to turn off the alarm! Fortunately, we were able to fall back to sleep once everything settled down.
After a fortifying breakfast by Norah, the kids and I spent a few hours at the Oceanarium, a beautiful and state of the art aquarium with interesting and informative exhibits.
Ben really enjoyed this street artist casting giant bubbles and I fell hard for Portuguese textiles. A last wander for paseis de nata and souvenirs rounded out our final hours in Europe.
